Back when Katie Ledecky made her debut at the 2012 London Olympics, she was 15. She is the benchmark for most swimmers out there. Training with men and dominating them speaks volumes about her talent. A terrific swimmer of the 200, 400, 800, and 1500-meters, Ledecky is one of the most decorated swimmers in the world. But, Ariarne Titmus from Australia, broke her dominance, at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics.

She won the gold medal in the 400-meters freestyle event, announcing herself to the swimming fraternity. In the meantime, Ledecky took the silver medal while Bingjie Li won the bronze medal. In fourth place, came a 14-YO swimmer from Canada named Summer McIntosh. Remember the name; because she is creating ripples in the swimming pool.

New kid on the block?

The prodigy finished fourth in the race, posting a time of 4:02.42 and winning plaudits for her performance. Her strokes are fluid and it seems she will dominate different events for years to come ahead. In the recent 2022 Canadian Selection Trials Prep, McIntosh competed in the 200-meter butterfly event and created a new junior world record of 2:05.81. One must wonder how she can challenge Katie Ledecky by competing in the 200-meters butterfly event. However, she had another world record to her name.

The sensational McIntosh broke the American and Commonwealth record in the 400-meters individual medley in the same event. Setting a time of 4:29.12, she has currently set the third-fastest time in the event. This is an unbelievable achievement.

A 15-year-old dominating the individual medley event is an astonishing sight. At her pace, she has all the potential to become one of the best swimmers in the world.

Threat to Katie Ledecky?

With one Olympic Games under her belt, McIntosh is turning into a versatile swimmer. Medley events feature all the four main strokes- freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, and butterfly. Thus, already appearing for the 400-meters, she has given notice to Ledecky and Titmus. If all goes well, the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics will indeed be a Summer Olympics.

As the next 2022 Swimming World Championships start from June 18th to July 3rd, 2022, McIntosh will be the one to watch out for. To sum up, she can raise the roof with a terrific performance in Budapest, Hungary. It would be a great learning curve for the talented swimmer from Canada. Hence, Ledecky and Titmus have someone to monitor. Summer is coming!
