With 8 Olympic gold medals to his name, Usain Bolt is the GOAT of sprinting. Historically, Bolt is the only sprinter to win the 100m and 200m titles at three consecutive Olympics. However, the Tokyo Olympics 2021 saw a new star, Lamont Marcell Jacobs, taste gold.
Notably, the Texas-born Italian sprinter claimed a shock triumph in the 100m race at the Tokyo Olympics as well as in the 4x100m relay.

However, Lamont has still got a long way to go, if he’s to follow in the footsteps of the legend. While he has 2 Olympic gold medals to his credit, Usain Bolt has set the unachievable standard of 8 Gold Medals, while also being the fastest man on earth. Bolt is of the opinion that it will be quite intriguing to see what happens in Paris 2024.
“It’s interesting who leads into Paris [2024],” added Bolt.
Lamont has performed his best at Tokyo, standing at 9.80 seconds, with America’s Fred Kerley taking silver in 9.84seconds.
As fast as this may sound, it is still far away from Bolt’s 2009 record of 9.58 seconds, making him the fastest man alive. No athlete has even come close to beating that record.
Just recently, Bolt himself has stated that there is currently no one who can take his legacy forward in the sport. He believes an athlete has to get up and take responsibility to become the next big thing.
“The sport is waiting for someone to take responsibility and say “listen to me, I’m that person now. If you want that position, you can take it. Because there is no one,” said Bolt.

From mango orchards to track fields
Recently, Bolt revealed how he gets his speed from being chased away from mango orchards in his childhood. He said, “Sometimes you’d go to a mango orchard that you knew you shouldn’t be in and someone would chase you out. That’s where I got my first taste of running away as fast as I could.”
