US athletes have always dominated the track and field world. The country has indeed produced some of the top legends in the sport, and the tradition is still on. Florence Griffith-Joyner, Jesse Owens, Carl Lewis, Allyson Felix, Justin Gatlin, and Michael Johnson are some of the names that helped in defining track and field for what it is today. However, the younger generation of US athletes comprising Erriyon Knighton, Fred Kerley, Michael Norman, and Sha Carri Richardson are also undoubtedly as phenomenal as their forefathers.

Team USA dominates the 200m

In 2022, the US athletics team has some of the most impressive track and field talents. Their dominance is well evident from the fact that US athletes have clocked all the top times in the 200m. From Erriyon Knighton to Fred Kerley, Michael Norman, Noah Lyles, Christian Coleman, and others have been more than impressive this season.

However, it’s been a while since Team USA won a gold medal at the Olympics in 100m and 200m. Though, they have always been quite consistent with the podium finishes.

Erriyon Knighton, the sprinter who broke Usain Bolt’s world record

Since his record-breaking performance, Erriyon Knighton drew much attention. He broke Usain Bolt’s long-standing 200m world record twice. Last year at the age of 17, Erriyon broke Jamaican legend’s junior sprint records and a year later became the fourth-fastest man in the history of 200m. He clocked 19.49 seconds in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to achieve this remarkable feat.

Behind Michael Johnson’s 19.32 seconds at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, Knighton is the second-fastest 200m runner in US history. He is a gifted athlete with a very bright future. If he continues with his spectacular form, he is certainly destined to break more world records in his journey.
