Sha’Carri Richardson withdraws from Kip Keino Classic?

The high-profile showdown between Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Richardson was set to be a classic showdown. Saturday’s Kip Keino Classic World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meet in Nairobi, Kenya is one of the major events this season. Richardson’s name on the list does not appear among the athletes who are participating in it. A tweet mentioned the details of her withdrawal.

“Sha’carri who was originally confirmed as competing at the Kip Keino Classic by meet organisers isn’t on the start lists again. We still get the Christine Mboma vs Shelly Ann Fraser Pryce in the 100m though!!”

This is not the first time she has withdrawn from an event. Similarly, she did not appear for the Texas Relays (March 25-26) and the USATF Bermuda Games (April 9) and did not give her reasons for announcing her withdrawal. On the other hand, she started her last season back in April before the Olympic Games. With the 2022 World Athletics Championships to be held in Oregon, Richardson’s exclusion from these events has been surprising.

When will she return?

It’s been a rollercoaster ride for the sensational young sprinter. Richardson ran 10.72 seconds in the 100-meters, which became the sixth-fastest time in the 100-meters competition. After testing positive for doping, she was banned from taking part in the Olympics. But, with all the hype she had about her comeback, Richardson failed to meet everyone’s expectations and finished ninth in the Prefontaine Classic.

With Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce taking part then, she could not provide great moments in the 2021 track and field season. With all that in mind, she is yet to appear in the competitions this time around. The Kip Keino Classic was a perfect platform to showcase what she is all about. Thus, we will have to wait and see when she will kick-start her 2022 season.
