2022 Diamond League returned with its second stop in Birmingham. The world’s best sprinters will look forward to post impressive performances ahead of the Commonwealth Games. The second leg featured the highly sought-after 100m men’s sprint race.

Andre De Grasse, Trayvon Brommel, and Daniel Stahl are amongst the global stars who will be competing at the Birmingham leg after successful Olympic outings.

Aaron Brown wins the men’s 100m

In a race fielding the likes of Trayvon Brommel, Andre De Grasse, and Yohan Blake, Canada’s Aaron Brown took home the gold medal. After finishing second in the ‘B’ race, Brown improved on his performance to take the first place. The race saw two false starts before the ultimate result could be given.

America’s Trayvon Brommel, the only American on the field, was responsible for the first false start and got disqualified. Next in line came Britain’s Zharnel Hughes as he too, got disqualified. Eventually the race began, fielding 7 sprinters. Canada’s Aaron Brown finished 1st with a time of 10.13seconds (-0.2) while Jamaica’s Yohan Blake finished 2nd with a time of 10.18seconds. Canada’s Jerome Blake took the third place on the podium with a time of 10.20seconds.

Andre De Grasse Edges Out 2021 World’s Fastest Man Trayvon Bromell to Win His Season Debut

The Canadians dominated the event as they finished 1st, 3rd, and 4th with 4th place going once again to De Grasse. While the Brits’ performance left the fans disappointed as they finished 5th, 6th and 7th (plus one disqualification.)

In the Women’s 100m, Dina Asher-Smith won the race with a time of 11.11seconds. Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson finished a very close second with a time of 11.10seconds.

America’s Sandi Morris posted the world’s top outdoor clearance in the pole vault with a winning attempt of 4.74metres. She beat out two former Olympic champions, Katerina Stefanidi (2nd) and Katie Nageotte (7th).

America’s Valarie Allman beat Czech Sandra Perkovic in the Discus Throw. Valarie threw 67.85m against Sandra’s 67.26. While Sandra’s fellow countryman Kristjan Ceh won the men’s discus throw event which fielded the top 6 from the Tokyo Olympics. His winning throw was recorded at 71.27m. Only Daniel Stahl has thrown the discus farther than this in the last 9 years. Olympic gold medalist continued her brilliant performance by winning the long jump event. She recorded a winning leap of 7.09m.
