USA Announces Women’s Gymnastic Team for Tokyo Olympics 2021

US Olympic trials for various sports ended recently and with that their teams are also ready. The USA women’s gymnastics team for Tokyo Olympics 2021 has been announced based on the trials. And the team is very young, yet very strong with ample experience between them.

The average age of the whole team is just 19.5. Simone Biles is the obvious leader of this team. She came back from the 2016 Rio Olympics with four gold medals and will be defending all of them at Tokyo Olympics. Despite being only 24, she has 19 world championships gold medals and has been one of the best gymnasts since her debut.

Sunisa Lee is the next big prospect after Biles. She is just 18 years old and will be making her Olympic debut in Tokyo. She is a pioneer in uneven bars and balance beams. The third member of the team is Jordan Chiles. She is also going to her first Olympic Games in Tokyo. She was third in the trials behind Biles and Lee. And completing the four-member Team USA is Grace McCallum. She was fourth in the trials.

Individual gymnasts and replacement gymnasts

With the above four making up Team USA, there are two more gymnasts that will represent USA in the individual events. The first among them is Jade Carey. The 21-year-old performed well on Vault and is a two-time silver medalist in the same category in the World Championships. The other gymnast is Mykayla Skinner. Skinner will be at her second Olympic games however, in Rio she was the alternate. She is the oldest member of the team and finished fifth in the trials.

Apart from the six representing the USA in Gymnastics, there are four other replacement Gymnasts going to the Tokyo Olympics. These four are relatively young on experience and only some have competed at the World Championships. The four Gymnasts are – Kayla DiCello, Kara Eaker, Emma Malabuyo, and Leanne Wong.

Last time in the women’s gymnastics, USA won nine of the 18 available medals. How many will this team capture in Tokyo?
