In this week’s issue, Riot chose to answer a frequently asked question on the “left-hand view model”. The ‘view model’ refers to a player’s character visibility on the screen. Usually, it is the hands, arms, and weapon on the screen. Also, players have the option to change the view model in some games from the right-hand side (default) to the left-hand side.

View model alignment depends on the player’s dominant eye. There is a whole exercise on how to decipher one’s dominant eye, that you can easily find with a simple Google search.

Valorant currently does not provide players with the option to play with a left-hand view model. ‘Ask VALORANT #8’ addressed this issue in detail.

On the artistic front, he says, “The first thing we want to consider is how we maintain the art fidelity of our awesome weapon skins, character models, and abilities. We don’t frequently get to see different camera views of our first-person weapons and view arms so we’ll need to make sure our art still holds up when we switch hands for players.”

Secondly, he addresses the effects of the left-hand view might have on the competitive front.

“We want to ensure that there are no advantages or disadvantages to playing with a left-handed view model and that we maintain a fair competitive playing field. We want to make sure that left-hand view isn’t the new meta or that players with this preference aren’t nerfed.”
