The tennis 2019 season has finally started, and what better way to start it, than putting two of the greatest WTA sisters against each other. Venus Williams got the better of younger sister Serena Williams at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship(MWTC). Venus Williams defeated Serena 4-6, 6-3, 10-8 in their first match of 2019, and the fans were not disappointed.

Both the Williams sisters seemed to enjoy their time out there and felt it was a good way to start the season off. “It’s your first match back and you never quite know how it’s going to go”, said Venus Williams after her match.
“We were both out there and tested our game , and it was pretty close in the end”, she continued. “In the first match of the season you just hope it goes well and I really enjoyed playing in Abu Dhabi”, said Venus Williams. “I feel pretty fit and I’ve done the work in pre-season, so I’m feeling good.”
Serena Williams, who is cut short her 2018 season after her US Open loss to Naomi Osaka, also felt that she had her game sorted out, before she heads to Perth, to compete at the Hopman Cup, alongside Roger Federer and others. “It feels good to be back out there”, said Serena Williams, commenting on her match with Venus. “Like old times! We both did well and I’m really happy”, she continued. “I enjoyed it more this year if that’s even possible, and it was a great opportunity for me to play before Australia.”

In the men’s division, Kevin Anderson overcame South Korean star Hyeon Chung in their first match, and Karen Khachanov beat the Austrian Dominic Thiem. Kevin Anderson will square up against Rafael Nadal meanwhile the Russian will take on Novak Djokovic in his next match. “One of my big goals from today’s match was to get through and play (Rafael)Nadal”, said Kevin Anderson. “It is a great opportunity for me”, he continued. “These are the guys who have been consistent for a long time and these are the matches I love to play”, said the South American. “It will be his first match in a while that’s why it will be interesting. The biggest thing for me is the belief and the confidence in being out on the court.”
