Virat Kohli Comes Out and Clarifies MS Dhoni Retirement Post

India captain Virat Kohli has said he has learnt a pretty good lesson, although in a hard way after his tweet created rumours of Mahendra Singh Dhoni‘s retirement from international cricket. On Thursday, Kohli had posted a picture of himself and Dhoni where he was sitting on his knees after beating Australia in a league game of the 2016 World T20 in Mohali. Kohli had scored an unbeaten 82 on that night but his running between the wickets with the former captain MS Dhoni (18*) was one of the things to watch.

However, Kohli posted the picture with the caption, “A game I can never forget. Special night. This man, made me run like in a fitness test.”

After his post, it turned into a rumour of Dhoni’s retirement till the chairman of selectors MSK Prasad termed it as a piece of “false news”. Even Sakshi Dhoni also cleared the air surrounding rumours of MS Dhoni’s retirement.

On Saturday, during the press conference, when Virat Kohli was asked what was on his mind when he posted the picture, he replied: “Mere zehen mein kuch naahi thaa yaar (I had nothing in my mind). I was sitting at home and I normally put out a photograph and it became a news item.”

Social media, although it has a good side, it has a bitter taste too. Kohli said the way he thought, everyone didn’t think in that way. He further shared that he didn’t even imagine people would take it as a retirement tribute. He shared the picture because he thought he has not talked much about the game in the last three years, unlike his other knocks, despite it was one of the important knocks of him.

“Like what did I write. I remember that game even now, every now and then. I never spoke about that game and so I thought I put up a post. Now people interpreted it in a different manner in which there was not even an iota of truth,” Virat Kohli concluded.
