After a hiccup in Trivandrum a few days ago, leading to the West Indies levelling the series, the Men in Blue were back at it. The Indian cricket team wrapped up the home series 2-1, with a score of 240 for the loss of three. Captain Virat Kohli led from the front to smash an unbeaten 70 to post a mammoth total.

Speaking after the match, he admitted that it was a very special innings for him for a good reason. He revealed that it was the perfect gift for his wife Anushka Sharma on their 2nd-year wedding anniversary.

What made this match even better was that Virat Kohli was backed up by solid knocks for Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul. The latter two, had endured a poor game in Trivandrum, so it was great to see them bounce back. Rohit had smacked 71 runs, while Rahul agonisingly missed out on a century, with 91 runs on the board.

Admittedly, the Windies staged a plucky fight-back, led by Kieron Pollard’s 68 and Shimron Hetmyer’s 41. Unfortunately for the Caribbeans, the rest of the team were skittled out for less than 15 runs. The bowling quartet of Deepak Chahar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav ran riot, picking up two wickets each.

It is fair that the two deserve it as Anushka Sharma has often been blamed for any poor performances by Kohli, oddly enough. There was also a controversy involving her and the BCCI, and the media outcry did not go down well with the couple. She hit back at the media straight away, and said,

“It’s not like this last piece of ‘news’ has upset me more and that’s why I have decided to break my silence. They have all been as regressive and horrible and malicious and vicious. So, don’t take this letter as my retort to this ‘news’.”
