Without a doubt, Virat Kohli has a ton of respect for MS Dhoni. So, it was understandable that he was disappointed with all the criticisms levelled at MS Dhoni. Kohli often sees the former India captain as his captain.

Interestingly, during games, MS Dhoni often marshals the troops during death overs when Kohli is in the outfield. The likes of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal are often guided by the veteran.

However, in an interview with India Today, he was deeply disappointed as how under-appreciated MS Dhoni was.

Kohli said, “After 30-35 overs, he knows that I will be in the outfield and its on auto mode. It’s just about the field placements and bowling changes and we say you know the angles, you know the pace of the pitch and that’s why there is so much trust and respect between the two of us. It’s unfortunate to see so many people going after him,”

According to Kohli, MS Dhoni possesses a better understanding of the game. He also admitted that he was glad to have a player of his calibre on his side.

He continued, “He (MS Dhoni) is one person who knows the game inside out, who understands the game from ball 1 to ball 300 on the field. I won’t say it is a luxury to have him but I am fortunate to have a mind like that from behind the stumps. At the end of the day, I want to be involved in strategy with the team management with Mahi bhai and Rohit Sharma”.

Kohli will be leading the Men in Blue in this year’s World Cup and will be hoping for a good campaign. But for now, his focus must be on IPL 2019 and trying to salvage what is left of his miserable season.
