Virat Kohli Reminisces about the Rendezvous with Roger Federer at Australian Open 2019

The Indian cricket team captain, Virat Kohli visited Melbourne to catch up with some Australian Open 2019 matches. He witnessed Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams in action during their third round matches in the Rod Laver Arena. After the Indian team triumphed over Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Kohli had a rendezvous with the 20-time Grand Slam champion, Roger Federer at the Melbourne Park.

The Indian skipper shared his experience about meeting Federer in Melbourne. Federer took out some time from his practice court to meet Indian captain, Kohli. He was delighted to know that Federer remembered about their previous meeting. The maestros of tennis and cricket discussed their respective sports. Kohli admires the Swiss tennis ace and conveyed that Federer is not just the best tennis player in the world he is something beyond that. Besides being a classic tennis player, he is a sublime human being. Kohli would portray the entire moment as ‘beautiful’.

“Well amazing! I have met him a couple of times before as well and the fact he remembered was like wow! I mean he told me that he met me in Sydney a few years back when he played an exhibition game and I was like ‘wow he remembers me’ and for me that was I can’t explain that feeling to you, you know…I have seen him play since I was a child and he is a great great man, not just a great Tennis player but a great human being as well and he kept asking questions and I was like ‘he is asking me questions’ and I could speak to him about mindset, how he prepares, what he thinks about his sport and it was just a beautiful, beautiful time,” Kohli opened up.

Federer conceded a defeat to the Greek tennis player, Stefanos Tsitsipas in the pre-quarters of the Australian Open 2019. Later Rafael Nadal conquered a straight sets win against the Greek lad in the semifinals of the Australian Open 2019.
