The whole purpose of a Formula One car is to go as fast as possible. However, off late, there has been a great emphasis on sustainability and management. Over the years, F1 cars went from V12s to V10s and V8s, and finally to V6 Turbo Hybrids. In a video, a group of Ferrari F1 cars from various engine eras took to the Monza Circuit.
Admittedly, the fans were furious about the ‘downgrade’ to V6 Turbos, largely because of the sound. Many were used to the sound of the screaming engines, which gave them a warm fuzzy feeling. Admittedly, the move backward from V12 engines, all the way to V6 Turbo power units, was necessary. The primary idea was to bring the cars ‘closer’ to road-going engine technology.

It is also noteworthy that Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel publicly expressed his desire for V12s at the 2019 Russian Grand Prix. To be fair to the German, he was hopping mad after his Ferrari SF90 ground to a halt. So, the irate 4-time world champion exclaimed on the radio, “Bring back the f***ing V12s!”

Meanwhile, with the game-changing 2021 season arriving, it is fair to say that V6 Turbos will be here to stay, to Vettel’s dismay. However, the sport has promised a huge shake-up in the order, since all teams will be heading into with no expectations.
So, will the Scuderia ever get back to the top of the order? Will anyone ever succeed Kimi Raikkonen as the next Ferrari champion?
