The Copa America finally concluded yesterday as two South American juggernauts in Argentina and Brazil faced off against each other in the Finals. Featuring arguably two of the biggest names in Neymar Jr. and Lionel Messi, this battle between Brazil and Argentina was a must-watch.

The final got off to a blistering start as both the teams went at it. With Neymar and Co. attacking, the Argentinian team found themselves in the back foot. But Brazil failed to capitalise on the initial attacks.

Given how high Brazil’s defense was, Argentina’s Rodrigo De Paul delivered a perfect long ball to veteran winger Angel di Maria. Di Maria perfectly finished off the move with a cheeky chip over Ederson.

Despite the PSG winger’s best efforts, Brazil couldn’t find their way past Messi and Co.’s defense. Di Maria’s goal eventually was the game changer, as Messi and Co. broke a 28-year-old drought for Argentina who clinched the 2021 Copa America trophy.

Lionel Messi might have had one of the best careers in club football, but the same cannot be said about his international career. While he is Argentina’s top scorer, the 6-time Ballon D’or winner hadn’t won a significant international trophy.

Facing off against a fierce international rival like Brazil, Messi and Co. had a big challenge ahead of themselves. While ‘the Maestro’ didn’t score the goal, he certainly left his imprint on the game and was a key member in winning the Copa America.
