After a stellar 6-4, 7-6(4) victory over Jan-Lennard Struff in the opening match of the ATP Cup 2020, Nick Kyrgios broke down in tears discussing the bushfires in Australia during his post-match on-court interview.

Kyrgios finished a flawless performance against Struff in Brisbane. His victory handed Team Australia a 1-0 lead against Germany in the Group F of the ATP Cup 2020.

He lit up the contest with 20 aces, raising 4000 dollars in the process. Earlier, the Aussie had promised that he’ll commit $200 for every ace that he hits. The 24-year-old was exceptionally good in his serve throughout the match as he demolished his opponent.

“I don’t really care about the praise too much. We’ve got the ability and the platform to do something. My home town is Canberra and we’ve got the most toxic air in the world at the moment, that’s pretty sad. It’s tough. Sorry,” a tearful Kyrgios said on paying $200 for every ace.

How Did Kyrgios Cross The Finish Line?

The first set was a cakewalk for the Australian. Kyrgios started off the match with an ace as he raised 200 dollars with his very first serve of the match. In fact, Kyrgios was flawless with his serve throughout the first set as he achieved an 82 per cent success rate. He hit 8 aces in the first set itself, raising 1600 dollars in the process.

The second set was more competitive as none of the players were able to break each other’s serves. However, Kyrgios edged it out in the tiebreaker as he closed the match with another ace.
