On Tuesday, Melbourne Renegades’ Sam Harper faced a massive blow during their Big Bash League (BBL) match against Hobart Hurricanes at Docklands Stadium in Melbourne. A collision took place when Sam hit a ball from Nathan Ellis straight at mid-off and rushed for a quick single.
He came out to bat at No. 3. However, the fielder grabbed the ball fast and threw the ball at the non-striker’s end. That created a panic in batsman’s mind and in a desperate attempt to reach the crease in time, Harper toppled over the bowler who didn’t see him running towards him.
Sharing the video of the nasty incident on their official Twitter handle, the BBL captioned, “Nasty collision in the middle between Sam Harper and Nathan Ellis. Play has stopped while the docs take a look at Harper #BBL09”.

However, the collision was totally accidental for both Harper and Ellis, leaving them no time to react. The collision, caused more harm to Harper as he fell clumsily on the ground. As soon as he fell down on the ground, he held his head with both of his hands.
Harper stood on the field, indicating that there was no serious injury at first glance. However, the independent doctor, who came to see Harper’s condition, decided to take him off the field. Harper batted at six off five balls when he left the field after retiring hurt.

As far as the match is concerned, Hobart Hurricanes posted 190/3 in their 20 overs. Quick-fire half-centuries from their openers Matthew Wade (66 off 29 balls) and Macalister Wright (70 off 50 balls) helped them to reach the huge total.

Chasing 191 to win, Melbourne Renegades failed to provide with a good start as they lost their opener, Marcus Harris, very cheaply. Injury to Harper became another set back in the run chase. However, Shaun Marsh and Beau Webster stitched a crucial 85-run stand to put them in a comfortable position. Marsh got out after scoring 50 runs from 30 balls, but Webster anchored the innings from the other end.
However, Afghanistan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi smashed a quick-fire 30-ball 63 but he failed to help Renegades to chase down the total as they suffered a loss by four runs.
