Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney scored an outrageous 70-yard goal to give D.C. United a hard-fought victory at home against Orlando City. The 33-year old is still making headlines in the Major League Soccer following his departure from Old Trafford in 2018.

Wayne Rooney, now in his second full season with the American outfit, has already scored 9 goals this season which currently makes him one of the five top-scorers in the league, alongside former Manchester United teammates Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Nani.

His impact at the club has been monumental since arriving last year, winning D.C. United’s MVP of the 2018 Season and currently leading them to 3rd place in the Eastern Conference.

The former England international picked up the ball after a loose touch by the opponent and without even looking twice, hoofed the ball from behind the half-line and caught Orlando City goalkeeper Brian Rowe off-guard.

It is not the first time that Wayne Rooney has produced such a moment. Whilst playing for Manchester United, he once scored a very similar goal from the half-way line against West Ham United in the 2013/14 Premier League season. More remarkably, the forward again scored against the Hammers from inside his own half for Everton.

“I thought it was nice and it was special to score the goal this evening,” Wayne Rooney told in his post-match interview. “It’s something that I’ve practiced so many times.”

“Different managers and teammates are like why are you practicing this, you won’t score from this position, but for nights like tonight, that’s why I do practice it. It was a good strike and an important goal for us”, he added.
