Sloane Stephens has had to face a lot of comparisons with Serena Williams ever since she started to make herself known on the tennis scene. Being an African American meant that this was something that she would have always been prepared for. 

She made the headlines when she beat Serena Williams at the 2013 Australian Open. This would give a whole new level of spice to the conversation. Sloane Stephens would become the US Open champion four years later.

What did Sloane Stephens say about Serena Williams? 

Stephens revealed that she never talks to Williams about tennis things. They often talk about New York and the way things work there. 

“No, not really.  Just enjoy, have fun.  We don’t really discuss tennis things.  It’s more about life.  We just, you know, general things, but nothing about New York.  We both love New York, though, so…”

Once she confirmed that there were no game discussions, she was asked whether Serena gave her any tips for handling the tough schedule of the WTA tour. Sloane Stephens again replied that this never happened between the two stars.

“No. I mean, our relationship is pretty much between us two and I don’t think, like, telling what we talk about is appropriate, I’d say.
