What are Some 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix Reactions that Escaped the Broadcasts?

The 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix was a manic race to say the least, with action and drama aplenty. In fact, there was so much going on that there were bound to be a few things that flew under the radar.

Toro Rosso driver Pierre Gasly sneaked into second place after Lewis Hamilton punted Red Bull’s Alex Albon down to 14th. With Hamilton also hobbled, Gasly passed the reigning champion and valiantly held him off to claim his maiden podium. This was also Toro Rosso’s best result since Sebastian Vettel’s win in Monza 2008 and Daniil Kvyat’s 3rd place in Germany 2019.

There were more surprises in store, as Carlos Sainz gave McLaren their first podium since 2014 in Australia. This came after Hamilton was slapped with a time penalty for his clash with Albon, gifting the Spaniard third place.

During the broadcast, Sainz was nonetheless delighted with fourth from his start position of twentieth. Also, since it was Carlos Sainz, he did not get much screen time as usual, while his charge up the order went mostly unnoticed except for cursory mentions.

Meanwhile, poor old Lando Norris was despondent admitting “…Yeah but, I don’t [help Carlos] out of choice, I do it because I’m f*cking slow”.

However, he was supportive enough to join in the podium celebration after the stewards’ decision was announced.

Coming back to the subject of Alex Albon, the Thai driver was undoubtedly steaming after getting robbed of a podium. In fact, at the restart, he snapped at his race engineer and told him to “f*ck off”, as he recorded a 14th placed finish at Interlagos.

In all honesty, it could have been worse though, he could have been in Ferrari’s shoes. Both Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc incurred the wrath of the Italian media and quite possibly the wrath of the team and the higher ups when they collided at the 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix.
