World No. 2 Rafael Nadal began his season at the ATP Cup, prior to the Australian Open 2021. However, he was unable to play a single match at the ATP Cup due to a back injury. In order to compete at the Australian Open and not jeopardize the injury further, it was a wise decision on his part.
It’s been a while since the Australian Open has concluded and the attention is on Rafael Nadal’s next choice of destination to compete. After pulling out of the Acapulco event in Mexico, the chances of the Spaniard competing at the Miami Open rises. However, if the problem with the back doesn’t settle it would not be rational for him to travel to America.

Rafael Nadal to play next at Monte Carlo Masters?

With the clay-court season beginning a week after the Miami Open, Rafa could be seen directly at the Monte Carlo Masters. He has tasted success at the venue, winning the event a staggering eleven times. At this moment in his career, the twenty-time Grand Slam winner would look to prioritize a Grand Slam tournament.
The 34-year-old World No. 2 has his best shot at the French Open to win a Major. With him being tied with Roger on twenty, it will be his best chance to finally get ahead on the charts of his Swiss rival. On the other hand, Djokovic has caused concern after winning his eighteenth Grand Slam title.

Although Nadal risks losing the number two spot on the rankings, he will look to put his focus on extending the Grand Slam tally. With the fear of the COVID-19 still looming around and his back injury, it would give him the added time required to recuperate.
