An 18-year old Denis Shapovalov came into limelight when he beat Juan Martin del Porto and Rafael Nadal at the 2017 Canadian Open to make it to the semi-finals of the tournament. For a man from Canada, Shapavalov coincidentally first made his presence known in a Canadian tournament.
He was in fact, born in Tel Aviv, Israel to Russian-Israeli citizens Tessa and Viktor Shapovalov. His family later moved to Canada before Shapavalov’s first birthday. At 5, he started playing Tennis and very quickly got a liking to it.

As a junior, Shapovalov reached a career-high ITF junior ranking of No. 2 behind a Wimbledon grand slam singles title in 2016, and a US Open grand slam doubles title with Auger-Aliassime in 2015.
He started playing professional tennis in 2015 and in the same year won his first professional doubles title at the ITF Futures in Florida. His first major singles title came in 2019. He also took Canada to their first Davis Cup finals in 113 years.
As he kept climbing through the ATP rankings, his personal life also became engaging. His professional success did not seem to slow him in having an active love life. Denis Shapovalov’s girlfriend is known to be Mirjam Bjorklund- a young tennis player like Denis himself.

Bjorklund is many times seen sharing pictures with his boyfriend Shapovalov on her Instagram. Mirjam Bjorklund, like Shapovalov, is a young tennis player. She was born in Stockholm, Sweden on July 29, 1998. Highlights of her short career so far include winning six ITF singles titles and one doubles title in the same circuit. She also finished as a runner-up twice in each of singles and doubles.
Her earnings through prize money from her efforts in the tournaments so far sum up to $40,021.

She has won 94 professional tennis matches in her career after playing 148 games. At 21, Bjorklund, one would assume, would go on to a play a lot more matches.
