Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has officially wrapped up his sixth Formula One world championship. In the wake of his second place in USA, the Briton has now got 6 titles under his belt. With this incredible achievement in the bag, the sky is the limit for Lewis Hamilton.
Now, it has transpired that a number of fans are calling for the man from Stevenage to earn a knighthood. In fact, chairman of Motorsport UK, David Richards and Lord Hain, the former Labour cabinet member, wrote to the Prime Minister.
Many say that no sporting contemporary of Lewis Hamilton has dominated a worldwide sport for so long. The letters to Boris Johnson highlighted that Hamilton’s story is inspirational. A boy from a Stevenage council house became the first dark-skinned driver in Formula One, and now he is a multiple world champion.

Lord Hain claims that Hamilton is among the UK’s 5,000 biggest taxpayers, inspite of residing in Monaco. He contributes lavishly to the crown while working in Britain, where his Mercedes team are based.
The campaigners also highlight Hamilton’s charitable work. According to Sportsmail he is partnered with Comic Relief to establish a £1million fund to support British-based charities which help disadvantaged youngsters.

It is a surprise. I think the public find it hard to relate to what it takes to race a F1 car. I also think he has an image problem, possibly appearing arrogant at times. I don’t personally think he’s the GOAT, but I would have expected the knighthood by now.

If Lewis Hamilton does get a knighthood, he will have joined an elite list including Stirling Moss, Jack Brabham and Jackie Stewart. Even the likes of Frank Williams and Patrick Head have received knighthoods for their impact on the sport. Head is actually the latest Formula One name to receive a knighthood, having got it in 2015.
