IPL 2019 is almost upon us with the season commencing in just under a fortnight. Already, the IPL 2019 Predictions are beginning to roll in as the season draws closer. One of the big changes this season is the return of the Chennai Super Kings. However, this return was at the expense of the Gujarat Lions and Rising Pune Supergiant. Another big change is the renaissance of the Delhi team, who have been renamed Delhi Capitals, dropping the Daredevils name.
During their first two seasons, the team was in the top 4, even topping in 2009. In 2010, they ended up 5th in the standings, however, the then Daredevils lost to the now defunct Deccan Chargers.
Delhi hit a low point in 2011, finishing dead last. Luckily, the team managed to recover in the following year to top the league once again. In the knockout stage, Delhi ended up 3rd in the standings.
But from 2013 onwards, their decline began, finishing dead last twice in a row and second to last in 2015. In 2016 and 2017, they improved to two places away from qualifying. But sadly, last year, they were back to square one, finishing last again.
Now, hopefully for their sake, the name change heralds a change of fortune for them.
On paper, Delhi boasts of a powerful young Indian trio – Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer. The three are expected to be vital cogs for the Indian team over the next decade. With Shikhar Dhawan joining the squad, it will provide Delhi plenty of experience to lay a solid base. Colin Munro and Colin Ingram are two big overseas names in the squad which makes Delhi’s batting line-up a force to reckon with on paper.
In their bowling department, they have Sandeep Lamichhane, Trent Boult and several youngsters headlining the squad.
