Williams F1 Not on Track with their Testing Programme

As if things could not get any worse for the RoKit Williams F1 team, they had a poor run in testing. In response to this, chief technical officer Paddy Lowe was thoroughly disappointed by the team’s showing so far.

The team that had a torrid 2018 season found themselves not even back to square one.  The Grove-based team missed two-and-a-half days worth of testing due to an incomplete car. So, while all the other teams were racking up the miles, Williams were rushing to complete their 2019 challenger.

Returning F1 driver, Robert Kubica could only muster a grand total of 48 laps in his morning run. Now, Lowe has admitted that the team is quite disappointed with the outcome.

“The start of our first proper pre-season test with the FW42. The final few parts had arrived overnight, so we started the day with a complete car,” Lowe said, speaking to Crash.net.

“The main focus of the programme has been data gathering around aerodynamics with only a very modest amount of performance running for the drivers just to get some initial feedback.”

Lowe believed that it wasn’t ideal for their two recruits George Russell and Kubica. This was particularly in reference to the issues with the FW42 and the red flags on track.

“Neither driver was able to get enough laps to really find the limits of the car,” The Briton added. “The morning was a much better session for Robert in the sense of objectives achieved.

“Unfortunately, we had a small fault at the end of the morning session which took a long time to correct and so we were late for the afternoon and had a mixture of other small problems and red flags. This means we didn’t achieve all our intent with George.”

Hopefully for their sake, the Williams team gets to the bottom of the issues for the second test.
