‘Wouldn’t Count Venus and Serena Williams Out in 2021’ Says Former Australian Open Champion

Having competed on the WTA tour for over two decades, Serena Williams and her elder sister, Venus Williams, are now at the twilight of the careers. With the career clock nearing completion, the 2021 season might be the last time we witness the Williams sisters in action.

The longevity of their respective careers is a testament to their relentless passion and hard work over the years. Recently, former Australian Open doubles champion, Chanda Rubin, was asked whether the Williams’ sister would be able to beat the clock in 2021.

Williams’ sisters can still beat the clock: Rubin

Rubin pointed out at the epic match Serena played against Venus at the 2020 Top Seed Open, signifying the players’ high level of intensity. The former World No. 6 talked about Williams’ sisters still going strong at the age of 40, which was considered unthinkable back in the days. She asserted that the Williams sisters are creating the clock instead of striving to beat it.

“When you consider the motivation they both still bring to their tennis…they absolutely can still beat the clock in 2021. In fact, they seem to be creating the clock. I would hesitate to count them out and I for one am very much looking forward to what they can do in 2021,” said Rubin.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena is still a force to reckon with and consistently reaches the latter stages of Grand Slam events. Despite having lost in her last four major championships finals, Serena will aim to break the losing streak and equal Margaret Court’s record of winning 24 Grand Slam titles.

On the other hand, Venus reached her last Grand Slam final at the 2017 Wimbledon Championships. Despite lacking her dominant touch, Venus is still assiduously trying to improve her game.

With the 2021 Australian Open about to begin, the Williams sisters will compete at Melbourne Park to once again enthrall the fans with their captivating groundstrokes.
