20-year-old Briton Emma Raducanu will miss the 2023 French Open and Wimbledon. Raducanu, currently the World No. 85 on the WTA Tour rankings, had been playing through wrist pain for several months. However, after her withdrawal from the Madrid Open, she decided to finally undergo wrist surgery. Following her surgery, Raducanu had to spend some time at the hospital, during which she revealed the news of her surgery to her fans on Instagram.

Unsurprisingly, supportive and encouraging messages poured in for Raducanu from fans. Raducanu also thought that Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz had a message for her, which led her to tweet something that definitely had a romantic look and feel to it. The message, seemingly from Alcaraz, went, “I want to dedicate this day to Emma Raducanu who had surgery today. I wish her a very very speedy recovery, she doesn’t deserve any of this. I wish she comes back fast on court and maybe play some mixed doubles.”

Fans offer humorous perspectives on deleted Emma Raducanu tweet

After Raducanu thought that it was a genuine message from the World No. 2 in men’s professional tennis, she tweeted, “@carlosalcaraz ‘yours’ :)”. The tweet didn’t last for long though, as Raducanu deleted it immediately after she realized that Alcaraz’s message was, in fact, not Alcaraz’s message. This sparked several funny reactions on Reddit.

For instance, one user wrote, “He follows her and I’m pretty (sure) they know each other so I can see why but she must be very embarassed finding out this is fake lol.”

What’s next for Raducanu and Alcaraz?

A romance between Raducanu and Alcaraz may be brewing. There may even come a time when the two come together to play mixed doubles tennis matches. However, for the time being, Raducanu will want to recover as soon as possible and make her comeback.

Alcaraz is chasing the Madrid Open title right now. He has already cemented his place in the final and is the favorite to win it, which should place him in pole position for the 2023 French Open title.
