She defeated Romanian Mihaela Buzarnescu 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 in her first victory in Wimbledon after 2018. Now, she looks forward to opening the account in mixed doubles with partner Nick Kyrgios.

How did Venus Williams and Nick Kyrgios become mixed doubles partners for Wimbledon?

Before the Championships began, Nick Kyrgios had been looking for a mixed doubles partner on Instagram. Seemingly, his search ended with the seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams.

According to the veteran player, it all happened when she was warming up on the lawn in Wimbledon. “I was just hanging out stretching, and he was across the lawn, like (mouthing) & I’m like, ‘Is he saying ‘mixed?'” Venus said.

Furthermore, the elder of the Williams sisters revealed her expectations from the Aussie star. She said, “He’s so talented… I’m hoping he does all the work; I’m going to put that out there too!”

Kyrgios reverted to this and wrote, “Hahaha… I’d run a brick wall for ya, Venus Williams.” Afterward, the American responded through her Instagram stories and said, “Voting you team captain.”

Notably, the mixed doubles matchups will commence from Friday, July 2, 2021. It would be fascinating to witness the experienced and the assailant play together in the event.
