Eugenie Bouchard was excited to make her comeback at the US Open. However, not everything went according to her plans. The player started off on a good note in her qualifying round but ended up on the losing side.

The Canadian star has to sit out of the US Open this year, but that does not mean she will not continue her effort on the tour. She has made a comeback after a long hiatus and thus has decided to participate in a WTA 250 tournament.

Eugenie Bouchard fails to qualify for the US Open 

The former world no.5 was off the court for more than a year after she suffered a shoulder injury. After she made her comeback, Bouchard strived hard to be a part of the US Open.

In her first qualifier match, Bouchard had a good start and won against the Japanese player, Yuki Naito. However, the Canadian star faced a crunching defeat by the Czech player Linda Noskova.

Bouchard rose to prominence on the WTA tour in 2014 when she became the first Canadian tennis player to reach the final of a grand slam tournament. Although she was subsequently defeated by Petra Kvitova in the final of the Wimbledon 2014, she cemented her status as one of the stars of the next generation.

Bouchard’s next tournament

The Canadian tennis star was not active on the tour for a while because of her shoulder injury. Moreover, she has not practiced on the court for a long time, so facing a few defeats before setting in a grip is not an uncommon thing. Following her disappointing outing in Flushing Meadows, Bouchard is now looking forward to the next WTA 250 event. The player has accepted a wild card entry to the Chennai Open, scheduled to start on 12th September.
