German tennis legend Steffi Graf is undoubtedly one of the greatest tennis players of all time. In her career, she won a whopping 22 Grand Slam singles titles, two behind Margaret Court, who has the highest number of Grand Slam titles (24).

During her career, she had many rivalries with different players. 18-time Grand Slam champion and former American tennis player Chris Evert was one of them. Despite the rivalry, they had mutual respect for each other. Recently, the American player shared a lovely message for Graf on Twitter.

Evert’s comment was particularly delightful, as she and Graf had plenty of battles in the past. Both played 13 times against each other. Interestingly, Evert won the first six meetings, and the German won the last seven of their match-ups. By the time the German finished her career, she had 22 Grand Slam titles in her career whereas Evert had 18.

It is worth noting that Steffi Graf’s picture will be on the cover of Vogue magazine for the June 2022 edition. In addition, she also gave an interview to Vogue, where she talked in detail about her ‘Children for Tomorrow Foundation’, which supports refugee children with therapy, among other things.

Graf preferred privacy instead of the limelight during her career

While talking to Vogue, the former world no.1 talked about preferring privacy over the spotlight. She said, “I have little need for publicity. Privacy was also very important to me throughout my career, which may have something to do with being in the spotlight at such a young age. I simply feel more comfortable in my privacy – and I can concentrate on what is important to me.” (Google Translate)

Graf became very famous at an early age. At 13, she became the youngest player ever to earn a place in the international ranking system. In 1987, she won her first Grand Slam title by beating Martina Navratilova. Moreover, she was in the no.1 position in the ranking for 377 weeks, which is still a record. Eventually, she retired in 1999 from tennis after suffering from a series of injuries.
