Earlier this month, Serena Williams announced her much-awaited comeback to tennis. It was a moment that tennis fans had been waiting for, for close to a year. Last year, the 23-time Grand Slam champion injured her hamstring during her first-round match at Wimbledon. As a result, she missed the latter half of the 2021 season and the start of this season.

However, Serena’s singles comeback didn’t last long. She went down fighting against France’s Harmony Tan in the first round of the 2022 Wimbledon Championships. The latter won some crucial points in the super-tiebreaker to prevail over the former world number one. Recently, Belgian legend, Kim Clijsters, opened up about Serena balancing her tennis commitments with her family life.

The four-time Grand Slam singles champion talked about how it would be difficult for Serena Williams to balance her family and her tennis career. She said, “The hardest thing about coming back is not having enough matches under your belt. You can kind of think that you can rely on past experiences and think ‘I don’t need that many matches'”.

Further, she went on to add, “That’s something that I’ve been used to, but once you get to a certain age and when you’ve been off for a little while, it’s exactly those matches that you need and that becomes harder and harder to combine with your family life where you also want to spend time at home, and her daughter is getting a little bit older and building her own little social life at home, and it gets harder and harder to leave to go on those long trips.”
