Iga Swiatek withdraws from the Berlin Open due to injury

Earlier, the Polish player took to Twitter and announced that she has been feeling discomfort in her shoulder. As a result, she will miss the grass court event of the season in Berlin. “Due to a recurrent discomfort I am feeling in my shoulder, unfortunately I need to withdraw from the bett1open in Berlin. I’m sorry I will not be able to play there. I will focus on recovery and rest in order to be ready for Wimbledon,” Swiatek wrote on Twitter.

Swiatek has been sensational in 2022

A few months ago, Swiatek won the Qatar Open by beating Anett Kontaveit in the final. Since then, she has been unplayable in tournaments, as she won 6 back-to-back tournaments in a row. Moreover, she won 35 consecutive matches on the WTA tour. 

After winning the final of the French Open, she matched Venus Williams‘ record of winning 35 back-to-back matches. If she wins her next match, she will break Venus’ record as the first woman since 2000 to win 35 matches in a row.

Meanwhile, she has only played Wimbledon once and reached the round of 16 in 2021. With her current form, she has a very good chance of winning two Grand Slam titles in a row.
