During a broadcast of Serena Williams’ US Open match, tennis commentators confused Dionne Warwick with Gladys Knight as the legendary singer watched from the stands.

Dionne Warwick, whose name dominated the charts in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s, was in the audience for Serena Williams’s US Open match. Gladys Knight also graced the special occasion as Serena stepped onto the court for her second round match against Anett Kontaveit.

‘Gladys Knight,’ Carillo stated, incorrectly identifying the legendary American singer. ‘Gladys Knight,’ Rubin agreed.

Rubin can be heard in the clip breaking off mid-sentence and pointing out a celebrity who she has misidentified. The incident involving the commentators confusing the two stars evoked a storm of rage from the audience.

Rubin, on the other hand, took to Twitter to provide her excuse for the mishap. She explained that Knight was also in the audience that night and that she and Carillo were looking directly at the stands when they spoke instead of the monitor showing the broadcast.

Williams is expected to retire from professional tennis after this year’s US Open. Following the announcement, celebrities flocked to the Arthur Ashe tournament, hoping to get one last look at the star widely regarded as one of the greatest tennis players of all time. Fashion model Bella Hadid, golf legend Tiger Woods, director Spike Lee, movie star Jared Leto, Vogue editor Anna Wintour, and even the former President Bill Clinton have all were spotted in the spectator stands.
