Recently, she made a winning start to her US Open 2022 campaign. The 23-time Grand Slam champion defeated Montenegro’s Danka Kovinic in the first round of the tournament.

In what is Serena’s final tournament of her professional tennis career, she put on an eye-catching display to enthrall her fans. Further, after her first-round win, the former World Number 1 was quizzed about her retirement.

Serena Williams on US Open being her last tournament

During the post-match interview, the interviewer asked Serena whether this year’s US Open will definitely be the last tournament of her professional tennis career. Replying to this question, Serena said, “Yeah, I’ve been pretty vague about it, right (smiling)? I’m going to stay vague because you never know.”

Further, the interviewer also asked Serena about the memory that will stick with her from her first-round win. She said, “I think when I walked out, the reception was really overwhelming. It was loud and I could feel it in my chest. It was a really good feeling.”

Serena to also play in women’s doubles

Recently, Serena announced that she will be teaming up with her elder sister, Venus Williams, to participate in doubles at the 2022 US Open. It will be a dream-come-true moment for their fans, getting to witness the iconic duo in action. They will face the Czech Republican pairing of Lucie Hradecka and Linda Noskova in the opening round of the tournament.
