Iga Swiatek has been on a dream run this season. Although her Australian Open dream crashed in the semifinal stage, she has dominated her opponents since her loss against Jelena Ostapenko in Dubai, losing just three matches this year. She is on a 29-match unbeaten run counting her first-round victory at the French Open 2022. The 2020 Roland Garros champion defeated Ukrainian qualifier, Lesia Tsurenko, comfortably in straight sets in the opening round.

During the post-match interview, the interviewer spotted Swiatek wearing a pin with Ukrainian colors on her hat. Subsequently, he asked her to comment on this.

Iga Swiatek shows her support for Ukraine

Talking about the pin on her hat, Swiatek said, “Well for sure. I want to show my support. I think it’s a pretty tricky situation that we are facing. You know, I’m pretty young. When I was younger, I never realized that I can live in a world where war is happening right next to my country. So from the beginning, I want to be supportive.”

So, I want to do everything to support Ukrainians because also Poland as a country, we are really supportive and we’re welcoming them so you know, I’m not at home so much. So, I can’t feel the whole atmosphere. But, I try to read a lot and I try to be aware of what’s going on.”
