Iga Swiatek has been a player to beat so far this season. The Polish tennis ace is in the form of her life and has barely put a foot wrong in 2022. She has put on an authoritative show in the tournaments this year, dominating her opponents with her aggressive shot-making.
At the ongoing French Open, Swiatek has made it to the fourth round. Last week, she defeated Danka Kovinic of Montenegro in straight sets in the third round. After her victory, she opened up about communicating with compatriot Robert Lewandowski to express support for Ukrainians.

During the post-match press conference after her third-round victory, the interviewer asked Swiatek whether she had a word with the soccer legend regarding his support for Ukrainians. She said, “Well, honestly, not really. I didn’t see a lot in terms of that. That’s probably my fault, because I’m not browsing through Internet during tournaments. My schedule has been pretty busy. I was more reading about all the transfer rumors. I was reading more about that. But still, I don’t know anything more. I just know the rumors.”

Further, she added, “And about the Ukrainian matter, I didn’t really see a lot in terms of what he said, but I’m pretty happy that he’s taking a proper stand.”

Swiatek extends her winning streak
With her third-round victory over Danka Kovinic, the 20-year-old extended her winning streak to 31 matches. Her last defeat came against Jelena Ostapenko at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships in February this year. Subsequently, she has won five consecutive titles.

Currently, Swiatek is in third place for the longest winning streaks in WTA since 2000. She is just one win away from equaling Justine Henin’s 32-match winning streak during the 2007-08 season. The list is topped by Serena Williams who had a 34-match unbeaten run during the 2013 season.
