‘Good Company’ – Venus Williams Welcomes Iga Swiatek to the Elite Club That Includes the Likes of Serena Williams, Herself, Victoria Azarenka, and Justine Henin

Iga Swiatek is on a dream run this season. She is the player to beat this year, having already clinched four titles in 2022. Moreover, at 20, she has defied age to attain the Number 1 ranking on the WTA rankings chart.

The Polish tennis star is in Rome to participate at the Italian Open. Earlier this week, she defeated the former World Number 1, Victoria Azarenka in the third round to notch her 25th consecutive win. In a dominating performance, Swiatek breezed past the Belarusian in straight sets 6-4, 6-1.

In the process, she joined an elite list of tennis legends who have managed to achieve this feat. Subsequently, seven-time Grand Slam champion, Venus Williams, congratulated Swiatek on achieving this milestone.

Venus Williams all praise for Iga Swiatek

The American legend took to Instagram to laud Swiatek for her efforts. Further, posting a story on her official Instagram handle, she said, “Good company,” as Venus welcomed Swiatek to this elite group.

By winning her match against Azarenka, Swiatek joined Venus and Serena Williams, Justine Henin, and Victoria Azarenka as the players who have won 25 consecutive matches on the women’s tour since 2000. However, Swiatek will aim to maintain this winning momentum going, with an eye on the French Open title.

Swiatek advances at the Italian Open

Yesterday, the Polish star defeated Bianca Andreescu in the quarterfinals of the Italian Open. Putting on yet another dominating display, she took an hour and 44 minutes to prevail over the Canadian. In a keenly fought first set, Swiatek won some crucial points in the tie-breaker to take the first set 7-6 (2). However, the second set was a lop-sided contest, with Swiatek inflicting a bagel on Andreescu.
