‘Lightning in a Bottle’- Venus and Serena Williams’ Ex-coach Hails Coco Gauff

Coco Gauff, the American tennis professional, is one of the most promising rising players of this generation players. She hit the headlines for the first time when she clinched the title in the 2019 Linz Open at just the age of 15.

Also, her victory in Austria made her the youngest WTA singles titlist since 2004. Thereafter, Gauff maintained people’s attention by becoming the youngest player in the WTA top 100 and claiming the ranking of World No. 15.

Further, she recently achieved a new milestone in her career in the ongoing French Open. The 18-year-old took down every opponent in straight sets to make it up to her first Grand Slam finals, thus, leaving an impression on several tennis veterans and experienced coaches such as Rick Macci.

Macci appreciates the performance of Coco Gauff

Macci has shaped several tennis stars. In fact, he has given tennis five world no.1 players, including the seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams. Therefore, it can be said that impressing him is a tough task because he can see through a player after so many years. Though Gauff has succeeded in doing so.

After watching her gameplay in the semis, Macci  wrote, “Coco Gauff reminds me of Venus in her movement. Covers more real estate quicker and faster and with those long levers reaching on the run producing quality shots better than any women who handles the racquet today.”

Further, he added, “Coco Guaff is a world-class sprinter that plays tennis. Gave her a few lessons at age 8 and even then she was lightning in a bottle with her overall speed. Speed kills!”

The American thrashed her Italian rival Martina Trevisan in the straight sets of 6-3, 6-1 to secure a final match against the Polish tennis ace Iga Swiatek. Gauff and 2020 French Open champion will lock horns in the last round of Roland Garros.

Further, they have clashed twice earlier and Swiatek came out victorious in both the matches. In addition, she is currently carrying a 33 match winning streak and will look for a Grand Slam title alongside her 34th victory.

Gauff is an exceptional player of doubles category. And whenever she collaborates with fellow American tennis ace Jessica Pegula, her chances of winning an event increases many folds. Further, they recently claimed the title at 2022 Qatar Open and had a semifinal run in Miami.

Currently, she is playing alongside Pegula in the doubles category of the French Open and has secured a seat in semifinals. The duo will have a face off with another pair- Taylor Townsend and Madison Keys on 3rd may for a position in the finals.

To sum it up, Coco has a high chance of winning both the doubles and singles title at this year’s French Open. However, she will have to be at her best in order to get past the current World No.1, Swiatek. So that she can have her hands on the singles trophy.
