American tennis legend Serena Williams made her retirement announcement on Tuesday. After writing an emotional essay for Vogue Magazine, the 40-year-old also took to her Twitter and Instagram accounts to share a heartfelt note. Serena is currently playing in the National Bank Open Canada. She has won her first-round match and is up against Belinda Bencic in the second-round match.

The former first lady of the USA, Michelle Obama, also gave her tribute to the retiring legend. She uploaded a picture of her meeting with Serena and wrote,

Serena to feature one last time in the US Open

As the 40-year-old has declared that it’s going to be her last few weeks as a tennis player, the upcoming US Open will be her last Grand Slam appearance. Over the years, the American has won 23 Major titles. Out of this, six titles came in Flushing Meadows.
Serena hasn’t won a Grand Slam in the last five years. Notably, she is only one title away from equaling the record of Margaret Court for most Major titles.
