Serena Williams is one of the most talked about players in the sporting world. Topics surrounding Serena often vary from her greatness in tennis to her entrepreneurial success. However, another topic that often takes the center stage is her physique.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion has a muscular built. Over the years, several fans have often addressed Serena as someone having a ‘man-like built’. While most of them manage to get away with it, that wasn’t the case in 2015. The renowned author, J.K. Rowling, gave it back to a Twitter user for his ‘Man’ jibe at Serena Williams.

J.K. Rowling comes to the support of Serena Williams

On 11th July, 2015, Serena Williams wrote her name in the history book by winning her 6th Wimbledon title by outplaying Garbine Muguruza in the finals. The win invited love and blessings from fans around the world. Also celebrating Serena’s win was Rowling. Taking to her Twitter handle, the author of the Harry Potter series wrote, “Serena Slam! I love her. What an athlete, what a role model, what a woman!”

While a large section of Twitter users praised Rowling for wishing Serena, what caught the British author’s eye was a comment about Serena’s physique. “Ironic then that main reason for her success is that she is built like a man,” the comment read.

Learning about Rowling’s reply, the Twitter user further tried his luck by making a comment. However, little did he know that, similar to Serena, Rowling also had a social media army waiting to protect her. The result? Instead of Rowling, this time it was her fans and followers that did the work for her.
