While a number of players are competing at the 2022 Frech Open, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal remain hot favorites for the title. Of the last 17 French Opens, the two have won 15 out of them. Dissecting the wins, Nadal has won on 13 occasions. Apart from that, Nadal has also been in decent form since the start of the year.

Doing the math, Nadal has an upper hand for the French title. However, Serena Williams’s former coach, Patrick Mouratoglou has a different view. Instead of Nadal, the current coach of Simona Halep is of the view that Novak Djokovic is the favorite for the title.

During the session, a follower asked Patrick, ‘Who will win RG this year, both men and women?’

Considering the rise of young generation players, like the majority of the tennis community, the French coach also asserted that naming one favorite is a difficult task this year. However, going ahead, he downplayed Rafael Nadal, calling Novak Djokovic to be the favorite for the title. He said, “On the men’s side, the battle is hard. So, it’s very difficult to say. If I have to name someone, I think Novak (Djokovic) this year.”

Mouratoglou’s take on the women’s side

Even though the men’s side came in as a difficult one for Patrick, that wasn’t the case on the women’s side. Like the entire tennis world, the 51-year-old also called Iga Swiatek the favorite. He said, “On the women’s side, there is one big favorite, Iga Swiatek. It’s difficult to see someone else.”
