‘She Always Showed to Never Give Up’- Ons Jabeur Reveals the Woman Who Shaped Her Career

Ons Jabeur, the Tunisian tennis ace, is the flag-bearer of Arab countries in tennis. She is the current no.1 Tunisian player and is the highest-ranked Arab tennis player ever. Ons invaded the elite list in the year 2021 by claiming the ranking of world no. 7. Currently, she is holding the ranking of world no.10 and can only move upwards on the list owing to her excellent form.

Recently, after her splendid performance at the Madrid Open, Jabeur shared some details about herself. Such as who inspired her to choose tennis as a profession.

What Got Ons Jabeur Into Tennis?

Ons did a quick ‘ Get to know me’ session with the WTA and disclosed the reason behind her choosing tennis as a career. She said, “My mother was a crazy fan of tennis and since I was the youngest, she took me with her.” 

Further, Ons admitted that while growing up, she admired her mother and drew inspiration from her. As she said, “she is a tough woman. It was kinda difficult, and she always showed to never give up and always fight. And believe in your dreams.” Thereafter she spoke about the game she likes apart from tennis. “I am a crazy football fan and I either watch or go play.” Jabeur said.

Jabeur in This Year’s Clay

The two times Grand Slam quarterfinalist has taken the clay-court season of this year by storm. After struggling in the summer double, the Tunisian raided the Charleston Open. Ons made it up to the finals, defeating almost every opponent in straight sets. Following that, she made a decent quarterfinal run at the Stuttgart Open. She walked out of the tournament after giving a tough fight to the former World No.2 Paula Badosa.

However, her defeat didn’t break her hope. In fact, it powered her to bring the next WTA Masters 1000 title home. Ons outclassed players like Halep and Bencic to reach the finals where she got the better of the American tennis professional Jessica Pegula. Thus reclaiming her prior ranking of world no.7.
