Emma Raducanu, 19 years old, is one of the most popular players in the world. She came into the news due to her dream run at the US Open in 2021, which followed her great run at her debut Grand Slam, Wimbledon. But, since then, she has not been in the best of forms.

Her 2022 season so far has also not yielded the results that she has the potential for. She lost in the second round at the Australian Open, and then in the third rounds at both Guadalajara and the Indian Wells Masters. She also could not make headway in the Miami Open.

While she did not make progress in the tournaments, her game does not suggest that she is not playing well. Given the level at which the British youngster is competing; it is obvious that she is spending a lot of time, practicing her craft. But on the other hand, with her newfound success after the US Open, she has also been signing a lot of sponsorship deals, with top companies and brands.

Chris Evert supports Emma Raducanu’s stance

This had been criticized by many of her fans. They claimed that Raducanu has been focussing more on these sponsorships deals rather than putting in the hours in the club. Chris Evert, a former tennis champ also came to Emma Raducanu‘s support. She said that England is one of the toughest countries to be famous in, because of the press and tabloids.

“I think Emma has tennis as her number one priority and she’s working hard. It’s hard when these financial opportunities come along and they’re just offered to her to turn them down, and I think that’s fine as long as her number one priority is still to improve her game.” Evert said.

Evert said that the British tabloids are extremely brutal, and often camp out in front of someone’s doors if need be! “I think Emma is handling everything beautifully… She has got a great game, and she has got a great attitude. But it is tough being a superstar in England, and I saw that in the last 50 years I’ve seen that with English players…. you just have to be thick-skinned. She has got to be thick-skinned. But I think she is.”

Evert, the 18 time Grand Slam champion said about Raducanu and what she has to do to improve even more!
