‘Terrific Athletes’ – Billie Jean King Greets Leylah Fernandez and Sloane Stephens at an Award Ceremony

The US Open 2021 finalist, Leylah Fernadez recently met tennis legend Billie Jean King and pro athlete Sloane Stephens. The trio had the opportunity to interact at the Sports Illustrated Awards in Florida. The award ceremony felicitates athletes around the globe for their contribution to the sport.

King also posted a few photographs with the tennis players. Fernandez was away from the WTA tour since Indian Wells but has resumed her training for the upcoming 2022 season.

Billie Jean King meets Leylah Fernandez and Sloane Stephens

Recently, the Sports Illustrated Awards took place in Florida to recognize the talents of various athletes. The 39 time Grand Slam champion Billie Jean King was also one of the guests at the award ceremony. Surprisingly, she rubbed shoulders with two of the rising stars on the WTA Tour.

The US Open 2021 finalist, Leylah Fernandez, and US Open 2017 winner, Sloane Stephens shared the platform with King. The former World No. 1, King shared a few pictures from the event with special captions. Happy to be in the company of so many terrific athletes tonight, including @leylahfernandez,” she wrote on a picture with the Canadian.

Fernandez has resumed her training

Just two weeks ago, Fernandez took to Instagram to inform her friends that she has started to train for the upcoming season. She even posted a thrilling video of herself working out on a beach in Canada.

The Canadian prodigy was last seen performing at the Indian Wells, but she was knocked out in the round of 16. However, this year has been truly remarkable for the US Open finalist. At the Flushing Meadows, she edged past a few of the best women tennis players on the WTA tour.
