‘The Future of Tennis’ – Teenage Sisters Target Serena and Venus Williams’ Trailblazing Legacy

A 17-year-old promising star on the WTA circuit burst onto the WTA circuit after she defeated the two-time Grand Slam winner Victoria Azarenka in the 2022 Miami Open. Following that unprecedented victory, Linda Fruhvirtova secured the WTA 250 title at the Chennai Open six months ago, and it helped her enter the top 100 of the WTA rankings. She positioned herself at the top 50 WTA ranking by January 2023.

Likewise, her 15-year-old sister, Brenda, gripped the ITF circuit with eight singles titles, and 27 consecutive wins at W25 tournaments. Brenda earned a Grand Slam main draw appearance at the Australian Open in January 2023. Considering their steady rise in the professional circuit, the Fruhvirtova sisters have been earmarked to become the next Williams sisters by a former Grand Slam champion.

The exciting journey of the two sisters inspired Marion Bartoli, a French former professional player and the 2013 Wimbledon champion, to make an optimistic statement predicting that the Fruhvirtova sisters will be the future of tennis.

“The Fruhvirtova sisters are the future of tennis,” said Bartoli.

Following the interview, Brenda was asked to share her inspiration for choosing a career in tennis. She appreciated her elder sister Linda and her family for their constant support throughout her journey on the professional circuit.

“We both (Linda and Brenda) started very young, and somehow tennis was always like the main sport. My sister started playing tennis first, and when I saw her, I wanted to play as well. And we got support from our family as well. They kind of wanted us to be involved in the sport, and hence, that was never an issue,” she explained.

Brenda, who has been praising her elder sister for nurturing her skills in tennis, does not expect any animosity between them. The sisters have found a way to maturely handle the situation and excel in the sport together.

Although it has been a pressure-filled journey on young shoulders, she is enjoying the highest-level of the sport. The game has given a lot of confidence to her. She is all prepared to put extra pressure on herself. For now, she is simply enjoying the game without worrying about wins and losses.
