Tennis star Venus Williams has said that being of sound body and mind has been the key to her success, and it is her focus on wellness that will drive projects that she pursues off-court.

Wellness to be the key to Venus Williams’ entrepreneurial work

Penning a memoir for leading lifestyle magazine Hospitality Design, the seven-time Grand Slam champion said she would like to take the concept of wellness and make it central to all her future endeavors as an entrepreneur.

Venus said she would want the target beneficiaries of her entrepreneurial work to buy into the concept of wellness and benefit from it.

“As an athlete being fit well and healthy is critical to my success. I would like to see the concept of wellness as a whole being applied to every type of project that we work on so that everyone can reap the benefits,” Venus said.

Venus’s experiences on court find expression in her design

While she has not called time on her tennis career yet, the 40-year-old American has already branched out as a successful entrepreneur.

She channeled her passion for fashion and interior design to launch V Starr Interiors, an interior designing firm operating out of Florida. She also has a fashion line named ‘EleVen’, which is built around the concept of respecting and celebrating individuality.

Venus said her myriad experiences on a tennis court find an expression in her design. “Everyday on the court is different. The opponent, the surface, the wind’s blowing, the sun’s in your face, you can’t see the ball. My passion for fashion and interior design mirror those challenges I experience on the court and will allow me to continue evolving my story,” Venus said.

An underwhelming 2020 season for Venus

On the tennis front, the 40-year-old had an underwhelming 2020 season as she exited the US Open in the first round, losing in straight sets to Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic.

She fared no better at the French Open this year, also losing in the first round to Slovakian tennis star Anna Karolina Schmiedlova.

Venus only put her name in the mixed doubles draw at the Australian Open this year, but lost in the opening round partnering Juan Sebastian Cabal of Colombia.
