Victoria Azarenka Breaks Down in Disappointment as She Gets Bogged Down by Her Own Game at French Open 2022

A rough couple of months for the former world no.1 Victoria Azarenka as she broke down on several occasions on-court. And walked off matches, shocking the opponents. Ahead of the French Open, fans were hoping that things would look good for the Belarusian; her struggles continue in Paris as well.
Victoria Azarenka loses the first set after being up by 5-2 against Ana Bogdan at French Open 2022

During her opening-round match against Romanian tennis player Ana Bogdan; Azarenka was in a commanding position at 5-2 up before it all went downhill for the champion. The first set went to a tie-breaker and Bogdan became too good for the Belarusian as the latter lost the set, 6-7.

In the tie-breaker too, Azarenka had three set points. But couldn’t capitalize on any of them and gave enough room for her opponent to bounce back; eventually clinching the set.
During the changeover, Azarenka sat on her chair and appeared to be in distress about the rapid change that took place in the match. She looked visibly frustrated and got emotional before taking a time-out.

To Azarenka’s luck, the match was stopped due to rain and Azarenka has enough time now to reset and prepare herself to win the next two sets against a spirited Ana Bogdan at Roland Garros.

As play resumed post a long hiatus due to rain, Azarenka put up an incredible fight; never allowing Bogdan to take control. Towards the tail end of the second set, Bogdan was serving for the match at 6-5 before the Belarusian found the fighter inside her and broke Ana’s serve.
Eventually, the second set went to a tie-breaker as well and this time; Azarenka got the better off Bogdan. With the match going to a deciding third set. The Belarusian got off to a quick-fire lead of 2-0 against the Romanian.
Capitalizing on the lead, the former world no.1 goes past Ana Bogdan in three sets 6-7,7-6,6-2. And survives to see another day at Roland Garros.
