The 19-year old had quite an impressive WTA Tour this year. Fernandez registered her first WTA title at Monterrey Open in March. Moreover, she didn’t lose a single set throughout the whole tournament.
Another noteworthy achievement came at the US Open 2021. For the very first time in her career, she reached the finals of a Grand Slam event. In addition, on her path to the finals, she surpassed some of the finest players on the tour, like Naomi Osaka, Angelique Kerber, Elina Svitolina, and Aryna Sabalenka.
Unfortunately, in the finals, she couldn’t portray her best effort. She fell short against the 18-years old, Emma Raducanu of Great Britain. However, she won millions of hearts through her spectacular performances at the Flushing Meadows. Fernandez last competed at the Indian Wells, exiting in the round of 16.
