‘Watching Harry Kane’ – Emma Raducanu Opens Up on How She Became a Fan of Tottenham Hotspur

Emma Raducanu has been one of the most popular players on the women’s circuit after her sensational US Open title run last year. Entering the tournament as a qualifier, the British tennis star defeated Leylah Fernandez in the summit clash to win her maiden Grand Slam title. She won her maiden Major without dropping a set at Flushing Meadows last year. Her amazing run in the tournament enabled Raducanu to enter the top-25 of the WTA rankings from the 150th position before the tournament.
Recently, Raducanu caught eyeballs after sporting a Tottenham Hotspur jersey. The London-based soccer club competes in the English Premier League and boasts of some star players like Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, and Hugo Lloris. She revealed how she ended up following the Spurs.

Emma Raducanu talks about her love for Spurs
The reigning US Open champion is in Stuttgart to participate at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Germany. During a training session, she sported a Spurs jersey. Later, during an interview, she spoke about how she ended up following the soccer club from London. She said, “My whole team basically are big Spurs fans and I feel like they’re egging me on. They’re desperately trying to get me behind them.”

Further, she added, “I don’t necessarily follow football so much, but I feel like now because of them I’m feeling some sort of connection. I loved following the Euros last year and watching Harry Kane, who’s obviously the England captain, and Son, I’m a big fan of him as well. So yeah, I like to dabble.”

Raducanu hasn’t had an ideal start to this season. In the inaugural Grand Slam of the season Down Under, she lost in the second round against a lower-ranked Danka Kovinic. Further, she suffered early exits at the Indian Wells Masters and Miami Masters.

Raducanu is the eighth seed at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix. She will take on Storm Sanders in the opening round. Should Raducanu manage to remain unscathed in her opening couple of rounds, a potential clash with World Number 1, Iga Swiatek, awaits the young Brit in the quarterfinals.
