Serena and Venus Williams have been household names in women’s tennis since making their professional debut. The siblings have combined to win an astounding 30 Grand Slam singles titles while winning 14 Majors in doubles together.
Two decades on, the Williams sisters have crossed 40 years of age, with hopefully some more years left in the tank before calling it a day. However, they will forever go down as two of the most dominant players in the modern era.

Serena opens up on competition with elder sister Venus
The pair have faced each other in the biggest of stages throughout their career. While both have reached the World No.1 ranking, Serena has showcased her dominance in the circuit winning a record 23 Grand Slams. In an interview in 2009, Serena spoke about how the siblings had a competitive edge like no other.

She said, “When she [Venus] forced me to go to college, we’d take the same class and she’d always do better. It was like, earggggh! Her scream of frustration is every bit as loud as the on-court grunt.”
“She lets one more go for good measure. “Earggggh! Why you always better than me? If I had two kids of the same sex, I don’t think I’d put them in the same sport or same thing. I obviously won’t be as hard on my kids – just because the times have changed,” she added.
Serena has been the most successful active tennis player, and it just goes to show how her elite mentality helped take her to the pinnacle of the sport.

Will Serena Williams return to the tour at the US Open?
After a lengthy spell on the sidelines, Serena made a long-awaited return at Wimbledon this year. Unfortunately, she fell short, losing to Frenchman Harmony Tan in the first-round. Despite the exit, Williams will take inspiration from her performance on the grass.

Now, she will hope to return for the final Grand Slam of the season – the US Open. Serena has won the Championships at Flushing Meadows on six occasions in her career. She is tied with legendary American Chris Evert for the highest number of US Open crowns in the Open Era.
