They created some of the most iconic tennis outfits together. To pay condolences to him, the former World No.1 took to Instagram and shared a video of their shared journey.

Serena Williams opens up on the passing away of her friend Virgil Abloh

The Louis Vuitton creative director and CEO of Off-White, Virgil Abloh, was a pioneer in the fashion industry. Recently, he passed away after privately battling a rare form of cancer for several years.

Indeed, it has left the world in shock, including the 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams. Hence, she took on Instagram and shared what Virgil meant for her and the world.

“Words cannot express the sorrow I feel on the passing of my friend Virgil Abloh,” Serena wrote. “I will forever be grateful to have had the opportunity to witness such greatness, such genius, and to feel the warmth of his smile.”

“It was my honor to stand next to him. He lit up every room he walked into. May his beloved family and friends find comfort in knowing how profoundly his art impacted our culture, and us all. I will miss you.”

Besides Serena, her sister Venus, Naomi Osaka, Maria Sharapova, and many other tennis stars were devastated by this news. Without a doubt, the world has lost a rare shining star.

After recovering from a hamstring injury, Serena is looking forward to competing at the Australian Open next year. She is still passionately chasing her 24th Grand Slam title.
